SOUTHWESTERN INDIANA OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Officials Association Presents Hospitality Awards/Scholarships
The Southwestern Indiana Officials Association named Forest Park, Southridge, North Knox, Jasper and Springs Valley High Schools the winners of their “Hospitality Awards” for 2018-19. By a vote of members, officials in all sports cast their vote for the school which provides the best hospitality at contest sites. Forest Park, Southridge, North Knox, Jasper and Springs Valley were the schools tallying the most votes this year and their Athletic Directors (Doug Louden-Forest Park, Brett Bardwell-Southridge, Kent Doades-North Knox, Brian Lewis-Jasper, and Jason Russell-Springs Valley) were each presented with a plaque at the SWIOA banquet held on April 6th.
As winners, each school was asked to select a female and a male student-athlete who best exemplifies Sportsmanship. Forest Park selections receiving $500 scholarships were Claire Mehling and Reid Steffe, Southridge recipients were Paola Valenciano and Josh Braunecker, North Knox winners were Makinzi Meuer and Carter Shaw with Jasper choosing Alyssa Skorge and Trevor Weisman and Springs Valley selected Caitlyn Reynolds and Cole Cooper.
In addition, two $500 Membership Scholarships were also presented to a qualified SWIOA member’s relative. The awards were presented to Dylan Arthur, son of Scott and Marci Arthur and Emily Carnahan, daughter of Dan and Amy Carnahan
With this year’s awards, the Southwestern Indiana Officials Association has awarded a total of $47,500 in the past 15 years to student-athletes because of their Hospitality/Sportsmanship Program. Funds for the scholarships are raised through a golf scramble held each July with officials/coaches/athletic directors in the nine county area served by the SWIOA.

FYI, Mike has been active with the SWIOA Hospitality Awards/Scholarship program where members vote on the schools where the best “Hospitality” to officials is provided. This year, the 5 schools voted by officials in all sports are asked to provide boy and girl who exemplify sportsmanship within that winning school. Scholarships of $500 (10 total) are awarded from funds raised at officials/coaches/athletic director golf scramble held in July. Scholarships were awarded at SWIOA banquet on April 6th.
Thank you for your support of athletics, officiating and sportsmanship!
