Jasper Boys Basketball Information

October 27, 2020

Hello Basketball Boosters and Fans.

As we begin the 107th season of Jasper Basketball, let us first take a moment to recognize last year’s seniors. Reece Day, Carter Stamm, Elliott Hopf, Quentin Harmon, and Jackson Kabrick were all gifted student-athletes and great role models for the young people in our community. They will all be missed. We would like to extend a special congratulations to Jackson Kabrick as he joins Jasper Basketball alum Jared Englert at Rose-Hulman to continue his career at the college level. In the four years that these young men were in high school, Jasper Basketball won 65 games (16 win average), three Big 8 Conference championships, and the 2019 4A sectional championship. Last season these seniors began the year with a 12-2 record, which was our best start since the 1993-1994 season. They also achieved a nine-game winning streak during the campaign, which had not been accomplished since the 1982-1983 season. As a program, our high school teams finished last season with a 57-9 record. Our freshmen were 20-1 under Coach Caleb Begle, our JV finished 20-2 with Coach Jeremy Wolf, and our varsity finished 17-6. Thank you seniors for leading us through a great season.

The year 2020 brought to a close another successful decade for Jasper Basketball. The years 2011-2020 saw our varsity team win 67% of its games with a 180-87 record, making it the most successful decade in regards to wins and losses since Coach Ed Schultheis’s decade of the 1970’s. Our varsity team also won two sectional titles (2014, 2019) and five Big 8 Conference Titles (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020) during the course of the decade. Our 17 victories during 2019-2020 marked our 6th straight season with at least 15 wins, which had not been achieved since the 1970 through 1975 seasons. Leading us into the new decade will be senior players Jace Goodhue, Andrew Wallace, Caleb Burger, William Schmitt, and Isaac Heim, along with senior managers Drew Hurst and Zach Williams.

This season will bring with it a couple of coaching changes within the program. Long time JV coach Jeremy Wolf has decided to step aside after a tremendous career coaching for Jasper Basketball. Jeremy began as a seventh-grade coach for the Wildcats before accepting the freshmen job in 2007. In 2011 Jeremy was promoted to the JV position. In the nine years that Jeremy was our JV coach his teams achieved a record of 142-48…a winning percentage of 74.7%. Coach Wolf is a great man, father, friend, teacher, and coach. His loyalty and commitment to Jasper Basketball has been unmatched. Our program has been blessed to have him. Replacing Jeremy at the JV level will be Caleb Begle, while Andy Noblitt returns to the sideline as our new freshmen coach.

And finally, as most of you are aware, Jasper Basketball said goodbye to the Big 8 Conference and will be competing in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference for the first time in forty years. Since 1980 we were fortunate enough to win the Big 8 Conference eleven times, with five of them coming in the last seven years. Changing conferences also brings with it a few schedule changes. We have added Evansville Bosse, Bedford North-Lawrence, Corydon Central, and Loogootee to our schedule for the 2020-2021 season.
